Ravage is the third book in the series. I strongly recommend reading the first two books in order before tackling this book. Tillie Cole has created a complex world in the Russian Bratva organizations. Their organizations and violent interactions span the old world as well as their new world in the U.S. The first two books lay most of the ground work for the Ravage story.

He vowed to take care of his sister and would do anything to keep her alive. He became 194, the most ruthless and highly trained assassin in the Night Wraith army. His mistress was on a mission of vengeance after her lover was killed by 221, Zaal Kostava, the Georgian heir. Using his sister as collateral motivates 194 to become a killing machine he was trained and drugged to be. He is no longer a human being. He is a brutal and murdering monster.

As a child Zoya Kostava survived the massacre that killed her family and Georgian Bratva. She barely survived and the remaining members have kept her hidden from the world. Once Zoya is told she’s finally free, after living nearly her entire life in hiding, so she sets out to reconnect with her long-lost brother, Zaal Kostava, 221. However, things don’t go as planned… One minute she’s standing on Zaal’s sidewalk staring into his house, the next she wakes up in a dark cell with no recollection of how she got there- no recollection of 194 kidnapping her outside of her brother’s house.

194 is on a mission to do the one thing he’s been trained to do- kill. The drugs pumping through his system leave little room in his mind to do anything else. He does what he has to do, by any means necessary, to try and get information from his prisoner. I hate to admit this, but the torture that 194 but Zoya through turned me on something wicked! Maybe because of the big, dark, scary secrecy of 194, or maybe because Zoya secretly wanted it too, or maybe I just love the way Tillie writes dark romance. I have no idea but I do know a few scenes had me squirming in my chair. And Zoya, the brave warrior that she is, took it all with regal. YOU GO, GIRL!

This book continues also with Luka’s story and we were given a handful of chapters from his POV. They focused mainly on mafia business, versus life with his Kisa. He’s still my favorite but I’m selfish and want more of him and Kisa.

Zoya made me chuckle a bit... She survived an attack on her entire family at a young age, has spent the rest of her life in hiding, yet she talks about this lifestyle as if she’s an expert. She must have had some amazing role models that kept her hidden and told her stories about the way things were/are. (Think Bran in Game of Thrones, lol) She had been trained and taught well, apparently.

Some of the phrases were a bit repetitive for me. And I’m only noticing this trend within these books, nothing from Tillie’s self-published works. For example, “I opened the door, making sure I did it silently. A large ornate hallway lay beyond the door.” D-O-O-R. We get it; the door is clearly a pivotal object in this scene.

I’m anxious for this series to come to a close. I’m currently reading Riot (yes, currently. Not like “I’m reading it but don’t start it for another six months.” No, I’m like 60-pages in, I swear.) and am falling in love with 152 and 901. Let’s see how this dramatic, dark series ends!
I was a bit skeptical in the early part of this book as the narrative was HEAVY. I truly questioned if I could handle 300+ pages of the two main characters waxing poetic about the horrors of their childhood. Then, Zoya got through to 194/Valentin and everything changed. I couldn't read fast enough.

Ravage may be the best of the Scarred Souls series to date. Honestly, once I was past the first 20% or so, it felt as though Tillie Cole had really stepped up her game. All the things I missed about the first two-interaction between other characters and the MCs-was there. While I enjoyed Raze and Reap, I didn't like that the H/h felt so isolated, even Luka and Kisa who were surrounded by people. Here, in Ravage, Cole makes the connection. Maybe it's the fact that both Valentin and Zoya are fighting for someone (else) that they love. Valentin, unlike Luka and Zaal before him, didn't seem as disconnected to society, so his voice was easier to relate to. The later interactions between Zaal and Zoya are heart-wrenching, as is the scenes where Valentin and his sister are torn apart.

And, Zoya and Valentin felt more like equals in their relationship, unlike the previous couples. At the same time, their conflicts felt more organic. As always with Tillie Cole, the sex is dark at times (it's not unusual for one or more of the characters to have been raped or sexually assaulted) and erotic. I've moved quickly onto Riot, the newest in the Scarred Souls series, which releases next week. And, I'm not going to lie, I hope somewhere down the road Cole is going to surprise us with the resurrection of Anri, because at this point I refuse to believe he's really, really dead.
