Amazing, Gripping, Heartbreaking, Real. I loved this book. It was so beautifully written and so painfully raw that I couldn't put it down. You start out from Kylie's POV and you find out her and her husband have had an open marriage since they lost their child. Cooper is the man of her dreams but they both couldn't deal with that loss and didn't know how to move on. I loved Kylie - she was raw and real in all aspects. She wanted her husband more than anything, but I think she was too afraid to tell him. I even loved her relationship with Grayson, even though I think she walked the line a little to close with him, He was there for her in a way no one else was. Part 2 comes in from mainly Coopers POV and you find out that he also has been dying inside and wants his wife back. I think both him and Kylie just didn't know how to fix all the mistakes they had made and they were both scared to jump in. But they are beautiful together. I loved loved loved Cooper - he made some HUGE mistakes by not speaking his feelings. But if he can correct the wrong he can have his happily ever after. Read this book! You will not be disappointed.Tags : Against All Odds - Kindle edition by Angie McKeon. This is a well written story! It deals with heavy topics that many do not like to read about-betrayal & neglect amongst others. Personally, I like reading them and feeling and seeing how the characters get through it (or not!).
Kylie seemed real to me. What she felt, I felt. Cooper, not so much. I commiserated with him in the beginning but not sure exactly where I came to dislike him. He was too damn selfish and wishy washy (& I usually get that in a heroine).
Initially, it had an Arsen (another great story) feel to it. And then it didn't. No comparison actually.
Grayson.....*swoon*....Grayson. I always thought the story was going a different direction but it teased you, manipulated you....and well, it didn't go the way I thought it would go or how I wanted it to go.
Nate? When Nate was on the scene I had all these ideas of where this story would take off to........stalking her, she would fall in love with him and he with her etc....and well, it just was nothing. Just like her life had become. Nothing.
It's tough to read about these heavy emotions in this story...and it seemed a bit drawn out. There was a lot of sorrys (so much that I really don't wanna see the word sorry again--LOL) ....but I can see where it was needed and this writer went deep. I mean dark deep. She had to have experienced some of this OR was close to someone who did because no way could you dig that deep into the emotions that transpired.
I never came close to throwing my KIndle but I was in a cheering section and was hopeful as to how it would turn out. I loved the recollections of the past.......where we really get to know the characters and see where they came from. It was never explained why the parents weren't in the picture, the estrangement.....didn't really get that.
But for a debut novel --this was damn good! I would definitely recommend and would read her other stories too...
It is a stand alone.
Holy Mary Mother of God! I started AAO and only stopped long enough to order pizza for my minions' dinner and one more short break to get them tucked in bed. Phenomenal, heart wrenching, gutting, PERFECTION. Gray has shredded me.....he's become my #1 book boyfriend, in fact I'm staking my claim on him as my book husband. ;)
This book will yank you in from paragraph one and it doesn't let go. The author has created characters who make you feel every emotion they feel. Be prepared, you will cry, scream, cuss and want to reach in the pages to slap certain characters. I refuse to write anything that could even remotely be a spoiler because you HAVE to read this from beginning to end with no preconceived notions. It will shred your heart in the very best way a book can and make you truly think about marriage, best friends and grief in ways only a supremely talented writer can do. I am amazed this is Angie McKeon's first novel and see an incredible future ahead of her!
I was beyond ecstatic to hear book two is being written and features my Grayson!
