Cori Tisdale was on top of the world. A basketball star at Harvard and a promising author with a lucrative book deal.

A few years later, Cori’s life is falling apart. Her beautiful girlfriend, Kat Finn, has a shopping addiction. To make ends meet, Cori takes a part-time job at a coffee shop.

Just when Cori thinks her life can’t get any worse, an old crush appears out of the blue. Cori’s friendship with Samantha Clarke pushes Cori further into a dangerous abyss when Sam reveals two secrets to Cori and asks her not to tell a soul, including Kat.

Will this be the end of Cori’s and Kat’s relationship?

Confessions from a Coffee Shop Confessions Series Volume 1 T B Markinson Books

I wanted to like this book, I really did, but none of the characters were very likable! The focus of the book was the protagonist and her dysfunctional relationship. She works three jobs to support her girlfriend's shopping addiction, and because the girlfriend is an "artist," that somehow makes it okay for her to not to work? Between the jealousy, money issues, and lack of communication, I don't see how they lasted three years as a couple. I kept reading because it seemed like a surprise plot twist might happen, but it never really got interesting at all. I'm glad I didn't pay for this book, because I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. I don’t like stories that promote unhealthy relationships with very little character growth in the end. There were some superficial resolutions, but the real problems were never really addressed. Very disappointing.

Confessions from a Coffee Shop Confessions Series Volume 1 T B Markinson Books Reviews

Confessions...is a fast-paced, light-hearted, fun read. The love scenes aren't overly graphic, but definitely get the reader's attention. The plot is believable and moves along at a graceful pace, not jumping all over the place. Characters are well developed and realistic. The story kept my interest to the very end, a bit of mystique surrounding the main character...who would she ultimately choose?

I'm looking forward to reading more from T.B. Markinson.
I don't normally read romance novels, but something about this book caught my eye when I saw it on Book Bub. I actually skimmed past it and went back to look at it. Twice. Finally I just downloaded it figuring I could always delete it if it wasn't worth the read. To my surprise, I was absolutely hooked. It's an easy read, and the characters really spoke to me. I can't say why, because I don't drink coffee, I've never been in a lesbian romance, and I'm not a clueless person, but somehow I just could not wait to keep reading and see what happens with these characters. In fact, after I finished confessions, I immediately went and signed up for TB Markinson's newsletter and download the three books in her A Woman Lost trilogy. Well worth the read!
There's no doubt about it T.B. Markinson is a terrific writer, with a great sense of humor. I laughed out loud at sentences like "I gave her the drink, being careful not to touch her hand, fearful I might break it--or pet her." Full of strong writing and lots of conflict, Confessions From A Coffee Shop is never dull, not for a second.

I wanted to like the novel more than I did, but I just couldn't...mostly because of main character Cori. She asks in the beginning, "Who am I to judge others?" yet it's all she does. She is quick to label one woman as "dowdy," often forming opinions of others by their appearances rather than who they are as people. Her tendency to think rather highly of her own physique and talents as a writer comes across as arrogant rather than honest self-appraisal. She is the exact opposite of her very kind, if fiscally irresponsible, girlfriend Kat.

Even though Kat spends money like it's water without serious consideration of what can go wrong when you do that, she is rather quite endearing. She is the reason I continued to read long after I wanted to throw some coffee (not scalding, of course!) over Cori and her exasperating ways. Kat may need to curb her shopping habits, but she has such a good heart and truly cares for Cori. Often, solid romances work best when two people are completely different from each other. That's sure the case here!

I don't regret reading Confessions From A Coffee Shop at all, though. T.B. Markinson's previous book Marionette is so outstanding and so gloriously good I guess part of me is still thinking of that and unfairly comparing it to this. Instead, I should focus on how refreshing and wonderful it is that the author never repeats herself when she writes a new book.
This was a touching LGBTQ love story. The book follows Cori and her girlfriend Kat through their ups and downs.

The Good
+ I really liked Cori. She was incredibly relatable.
+ The story itself was incredibly relatable. Situationally, this could happen to anyone, be anyone. It wasn't an over the top romance novel/fairytale.
+ Cori's family was hilarious! And crazy... I (unfortunately) related more to Kat's family, and wished that I had had Cori's, or had at least known her family.
+ The sex scenes weren't over the top. Sometimes you want crazy sex scenes, other times you want sweet ones. Not saying they weren't steamy, because they were. They just weren't crazy.

The Bad
- At times, it felt a little slow.
- There were a few editing errors, but not enough to piss me off.

The Ugly
-- I got nothin'!
Confessions from a Coffee Shop by T.B. Markinson is a great contemporary romance novel with a unique story line. It takes you on a journey with Cori Tisdale and Kat Finn and their ups and downs in their relationship. Jealousy is such a powerful and complicated emotion it can shake the foundation of trust even in the strongest relationships. It is a touching love story and I felt like I was transported into the character of Cori and lived through every emotion with her. There are plenty of supporting characters like Cori’s mom, her aunt and Harold, who give the story a light-hearted and humorous touch.

T.B. Markinson is definitely one of my favorite authors. She is a terrific writer, with a great sense of humor. I’ve read several books written by her and every one of them has captivated me.

Confessions from a Coffee Shop by T.B. Markinson is the first book in the Confessions Series. Every book in this series can be read on its own but I can assure you that you want to pick up the second one as soon as you finished the first. The second book in the series is Confessions from the Dark (Confessions Series Book 2).
